Megan sends a sext

A new video was launched in Canberra yesterday to mark White Balloon Day, the annual event to raise awareness of child abuse.

The video shows a young girl called Megan who sends a “sext” – an explicit photo taken on her mobile phone – of herself to her boyfriend. When she gets to class she soon finds out how quickly this can get out of hand.

You can find out more about the video in The Age.

About Gavin May

Gavin May is a parent at Ivanhoe Grammar School and formerly the Director of ICT. www.icybersafe.com is aimed at helping parents live in a connected world, where the internet is central to much of what we do, and certainly much of what our children do. The easy option is to just block it - the better option is to get involved and stay informed.

I want to say that this is one of the best informational videos I have seen and I love that some one is trying to make a difference. I am a long standing parent and try very hard to stay informed and to stay involved in every aspect of my childrens lives. As such I have discovered that we dont have many resources and am considering starting a program to help parents be informed and involved as well as help the children before cyber bullying, sexting or predators become an issue in there life. Is there any suggestions on material that is openly usable or groups that would be willing to openly share material.
