Google launches new Family Safety Centre

Google have launched a new website to help parents and guardians protect their children as they use the Internet, especially with Google websites and tools.

Google say:

When it comes to family safety, we aim to:

  • Provide parents and teachers with tools to help them choose what content their children see online;
  • Offer tips and advice to families about how to stay safe online;
  • Work closely with organisations such as charities, others in our industry and government bodies dedicated to protecting young people.

A great feature of the site is the video section with Google staff, who are also parents, talking about their experiences and advice for other parents.

A localised version for Australia can be viewed at http://www.google.com.au/familysafety/.

About Gavin May

Gavin May is a parent at Ivanhoe Grammar School and formerly the Director of ICT. www.icybersafe.com is aimed at helping parents live in a connected world, where the internet is central to much of what we do, and certainly much of what our children do. The easy option is to just block it - the better option is to get involved and stay informed.
