This newspaper report highlights that children are the new targets for identity theft. It warns that, “A child who posts basic details about their lives on Facebook, such as their date of birth, school, name, email and photographs, are providing enough data for a criminal to apply for a credit card, loan or documents in the child’s name when they turn 18.”
At Ivanhoe our Cyber Policies and Cyber Education aim at protecting the Cyber Safety of our students. Students are explicitly taught about the importance of protecting their identity on the Internet. Secure passwords, privacy protection on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and excluding personal information such as age, email address, mobile number, home address, and date of birth are a particular focus.
