What is chat?
Instead of continuously addressing e-mails and sending them to and from each other in order to have a conversation, chat is an online conversation in which you are immediately able to send messages back and forth to one another. You write a comment in a box, hit Enter key and the message is immediately sent to the party you are chatting with and they can comment back. It is immediate – as if you are conversing on the phone but you are doing it written form instead. It is private usually only between two parties, sometimes more but you choose who is involved in your ‘chat’ by inviting them into the conversation.
Online chat is cheap – unlike phone calls especially if you are communicating across the globe. It does not however come without its dangers. The following link will help you understand and teach the dangers to your children.
